REPORTS TO:             Associate Director, Media Relations

ASSIGNMENT TYPE:    Full Time

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Write, proofread and distribute press releases;
    • Pitch story ideas to regional and national media;
    • Research and engage influencers in the fields of global health, disaster relief and health care for the underserved;
    • Contribute to thought leadership with op-eds and speeches;
    • Identify speaking opportunities for senior staff;
    • Manage media lists and databases;
    • Assist with event publicity;
    • Manage and grow the @AmericaresNews Twitter feed;
    • Analyze media coverage and report metrics;
    • Assist other members of the Marketing and Communications team with a wide variety of projects and assignments, including administrative duties.

    DELIVERABLES:

    The Public Relations Coordinator, will be responsible for:

    • Writing:

      • Press releases/media advisories
      • Press statements
      • Pitches
      • Talking points
      • Other writing assignments and external communications as needed
    • Responding to media inquiries;

    • Building relationships with influential journalists;

    • Producing monthly media coverage reports and analytics;

    • Managing the @AmericaresNews Twitter feed;

    • Researching subjects related to global health to help develop the Americares voice;

    • And supporting other Marketing and Communications team members on a variety of projects including administrative duties.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Three to five years of full-time experience in media relations with a public relations agency, corporation or nonprofit; 
    • Experience building and managing media lists;

    • Experience writing press releases and pitching;

    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in public relations or journalism;

    • Strong writing, editing, proofreading and oral communications skills;
    • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and adherence to deadlines;

    • Demonstrated ability to work across all levels of an organization;
    • Proven ability to work effectively and independently, but also to serve as an effective member of a team;
    • Creative problem solver and innovator with a strong drive to accomplish tasks; 
    • Familiarity with Cision or similar media monitoring and distribution services;
    • Familiarity with AP Style;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with SharePoint, InDesign and Photoshop a plus;
    • Strong interest in international relief and development and health;
    • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
